Biography of Lance Corporal James Campsie

James Campsie was born on 5th September 1867 in Scone, Perthshire. His father, William, was a blacksmith.

When he was eighteen years old in 1885, Campsie began an Arts course at the University of Glasgow. He graduated MA in 1889.

Campsie then became a teacher. He taught at Calder Street Public School in Govanhill, Glasgow. During the First World War, he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC).
