Biography of 2nd Lieutenant Gavin Haddow Boyd

Gavin Haddow Boyd was born on the 18th of July 1898 in Maybole, Aryshire. He was the only son of Samuel Gibson Boyd, a monumental letter cutter, and Mary Jones McChesnie Boyd. He had one sister Margaret J P McChesnie Boyd.

In 1915 he enrolled at Glasgow University to study Medicine and moved to 214 West Princes Street, Glasgow. In his first year he took classes in zoology, chemistry, anatomy, botany and physics. In his second year he moved to 51 Bank Street, Hillhead. He took classes in anatomy and physiology.

He did not enrol in a third year of study and by mid-1917 he had joined the army. He was in the 16th Battalion of the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He was killed in action aged 19 on the 2nd of December 1917. He is buried at the Tyne Cot cemetery, west Flanders, Belgium and remembered on the Glasgow University Roll of Honour.
