John Colledge Turnbull


John Colledge Turnbull was born on the 4th January 1877 in Dailly, Ayrshire, and was the son of the Reverend George Turnbull and mother Elizabeth Steel Turnbull (née Colledge).

He graduated BL from the University in 1902 and you can see his student record here.

Turnbull was commissioned as Lieutenant in 1916 into the 7th Bn. Highland Light Infantry, and attached to Royal Scots Fusiliers as Captain. On the 1st January 1917, while in transit to Egypt on board the S.S. Ivernia, the ship was torpedoed and sunk.

Captain John Colledge Turnbull ended the war as Commandant of No 3 P.O.W. Camp at Sidi Bishir, Alexandria, Egypt. After the War, he worked as a solicitor in Glasgow.

John Colledge Turnbull died on the 13th June 1942.
