Archibald Scott

Archibald Scott was born on the 7th September 1894 at 28 Canal Street, Saltcoats, Ayrshire, and lived at 10 Witch Road, Kilmarnock, while attending the University of Glasgow. His father, also Archibald Scott, was a Chief Clerk at the Glasgow and South-Western Railway (Goods Department), his mother was Elizabeth McDonald Scott (nee McLean), who had married on the 15th November 1893 in Stevenston, Ayrshire.
The only one of his family to attend University, Archibald started University in 1913 aged 19, studying French and Latin. In the 1914-15 academic year he studied English Literature and History. His studies were interrupted, however, by World War 1 when Archibald joined the University of Glasgow Officers' Training Corps before enlisting in the 8/10th Bn. Gordon Highlanders.
2nd Lieutenant Archibald Scott was killed in action on the 25th April 1917 and following his death, his mother emigrated to America with her family. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial in the Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery, in the western part of the town of Arras.
