Antiseptic Surgery
Eleven-year-old James Greenlees was admitted to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula. Greenlees was the first patient to have his wounds treated using Joseph Lister's improved "carbolic acid plan". He was discharged from the Infirmary on 2 October.
