King's College, Aberdeen
William ElphinstonePope Alexander VI issued a Bull for the foundation of a university in Aberdeen. Teaching began at King's College, Scotland's third university, in October 1497.

William Elphinstone, the Bishop of Aberdeen who was a graduate and former Rector of the University of Glasgow, had gone to Rome to present the case for the foundation of a new university in the city.
