Invitation to the cutting of the first sod at Gilmorehill, 1st June 1866An invite for the cutting of the first sod at Gilmorehill, from 1st June 1866, reads: "New College Buildings. Tomorrow (Saturday) at 12 o'clock noon has been fixed for turning the first sod at Gilmorehill, and your attendance thereat is respectifully requested. "

Opening of an extension to the Western Infirmary by the Lord Provost of Glasgow
Opening of an extension to the Western Infirmary, housing over 150 beds and a residential block for nursing staff. The extension is funded by the will of the late John Freeland of Nice, elder son of the founder of Glasgow trading firm, John Freeland & Co. The extension was formally opened by the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Hon. John Ure. A life-sized portrait of him, painted by James Macbeath, was displayed for years in the main staircase.
