Bute and Randolph Halls
The Bute and Randolph Halls were officially opened at a conversazione given by the professors. The Scotsman reported that "by 9 o'clock the halls afforded a gay and attractive spectacle. The whole suite of rooms were brilliantly illuminated by the electric light, eight arcs and sixty-two incandescent lamps being in use." The band of the 93rd Highlanders and the University Choir provided musical entertainment for nearly 2,000 guests.
