Description

The Gardiner Chair of Music was founded in 1928 and endowed by the gift of William Guthrie Gardiner (d 1935) and his brother Sir Frederick Crombie Gardiner (1855-1937). The chair and the directorship of the Scottish National Academy of Music were joint appointments from 1929 until 1952.
