Gibson Lectureship in the History of Mathematics
Description
The Gibson Lectureship in the History of Mathematics was founded in 1927 with funds raised by the friends of George Gibson (1858-1930), Professor of Mathematics at the University from 1909 until 1927. The foundation provides for the periodic delivery of lectures on the history of either Pure or Applied Mathematics, and the lecture committee consists of the Principal and the Professors of Mathematics, Natural Philosophy and Astronomy at the University, and the Principal of the University of Strathclyde.
The first Gibson Lecture was delivered in June 1933 by Albert Einstein.
