Gifford Lectureship on Natural Theology
Description
The prestigious Gifford Lectureships were founded by a bequest of £80,000 from Adam, Lord Gifford, in 1887. £20,000 was gifted to the Universities of Aberdeen and Glasgow to found "a lectureship or popular chair for promoting, advancing, teaching and diffusing the study of Natural Theology, in the widest sense of the term..."
The lecturer is appointed for a period of two years, and Gifford Lecturers include James Balfour MP, William Macneile Dixon and Richard Dawkins.
