Bute Gardens, 25-29

25-29 Bute Gardens provides administrative offices and teaching space for the School of Social and Political Sciences in the College of Social Sciences.

The terrace comprises five sandstone houses likely built by John Nesbit in 1907. The houses are in the Arts & Crafts style and were C Listed in 2011. The terrace sits on land formerly belonging to Lilybank House; the south elevation sits on the north edge of the north drive to the house. The terrace preserves the original layout of the nineteenth-century street pattern unlike the adjacent Adam Smith and Library buildings, which were built in the 1960s and take their alignment from the Gilbert Scott Building.
