Biography of Hyam Goodman
Hyam Goodman was born on the 19 June 1875 in Glasgow. He graduated from the University of Glasgow MA 1894 and MBChB in 1899. Goodman was one of eleven children, the son of Abraham and Leah Goodman. His father worked as a Church Officer.
Goodman first enrolled at the university in 1891, aged just 16. He registered for an arts degree, taking classes in Latin, Humanity and Greek. After completing his arts degree in 1894, Goodman continued his education at the University of Glasgow and began to study for a medical degree. A highly successful student, Goodman won prizes in a variety of classes. He won first-class certificates in both the Practice of Medicine and Surgery, as well as further certificates in Midwifery, Insanity and Practical Pathology. Goodman also served as the President of the SRC in 1896.
After graduation, Hyam moved to Johannesburg to become a Doctor. He also served in the First World War, his Roll of Honour entry is view-able here.
