John Mauchline
Biography of John Mauchline
John Mauchline (1902-1984) was a graduate of the University who was Professor of Old Testament Language and Literature, 1935 to 1972. He was Dean of the Faculty of Divinity, 1948 to 1951, and Principal of Trinity College, Glasgow, from 1953.
Mauchline studied at the University, graduating MA with a first in Semitic Languages in 1923 and and BD in 1925. He pursued research interests in the Middle East and was a minister in Motherwell before his appointment to the University Chair in 1935.
