Biography of Professor John Hunter
John Hunter (1922-2013) was Titular Professor of Mathermatics at the University of Glasgow from 1976 to 1986.
John Hunter was born on 8th August 1922 in the district of New Monkland, Lanarkshire. Hunter was a graduate of the University of Glasgow (MA, 1944) and the University of Cambridge (BA and PhD). He was a Lecturer in Mathematics from 1951 to 1962 and Senior Lecturer from 1962 to 1976.
Professor Hunter published several texts in association with the Scottish Mathematics Group and Mathematics in Action including: Analytic Geometry and Vectors (Glasgow, Blackie; Edinburgh, Chambers; 1972: ISBN 0550758925); Calculus (Glasgow, Blackie; Edinburgh, Chambers; 1972: ISBN 0550758933); Mathematics in Action. 6S (Glasgow, Nelson Blackie; 1993: ISBN 0174410271) as well as Number Theory (Oliver & Boyd, Edinburgh; 1964: ISBN 0050013505).
Professor John Hunter died on the 27th January 2013, aged 90.
