Biography of Martin Paul Weaver

Martin Weaver was born on the 9th of July 1962 to the noted expert cattle veterinarian and fellow Glasgow alumni Dr David Weaver. Weaver’s mother was German which meant that he was familiar with the language from a young age.

In 1980 Waver first matriculated at the University to study for Veterinary Medicine. After qualifying in he worked in general practice in Dunoon, and then Thirsk, North Yorkshire. His knowledge of the German language allowed him to obtain an internship at Munich University between 1988 and 1990, and during that time he obtained a Doctor of Med Vet. After his internship at Munich University was finished, Weaver remained in Germany to work as an intern in Bernhard Huskamp’s Tierklinik Hochmoor Equine Clinic.

When Weaver returned to the UK he was awarded a HBLB scholarship to undertake a residency in equine diagnostic imaging at the University of Cambridge, which he undertook from 1991 and 1994. During the residency he obtained both the RCVS certificate of veterinary radiology and later the RCVS diploma in veterinary radiology. He then moved from Cambridge to London, becoming a research assistant in the Royal Veterinary College. In 1997 he began to work in Ireland at University College Dublin where he was university lecturer in large animal surgery. He remained at UCD until 2001, when he returned to Scotland to work in the quine department of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies of the University of Edinburgh, where he was a senior lecturer in equine surgery.
