Rose Jacobs was born in Glasgow on 9 June 1894, daughter to Benjamin and Judith Jacobs. Her father was a clothier merchant and they lived on Holyrood Crescent in the West of Glasgow.

Rose began her studies at the University in 1913, when she was 19 years old, taking classes in French and German. She was awarded first class certificates in both French and German at the end of her first year.

The following year she took classes in Moral Philosophy and Higher French and German. She was again awarded a first-class certificate, this time for her Higher German Language and Literature class.

In 1915, she studied Honours French, Honours German, Geology and English and in her final year before graduating from the University with her MA she took Higher English, Honours French and Honours German.

She matriculated again at the University in 1917 to study Education for one year.

She later married Mr Phineas Horowitz and lived in Cricklewood, London.
