Dr. Roona Simpson was a sociologist whose research focused on sociology of intimacy and family life. She graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1997 with a degree in Sociology and Philosophy. She continued her studies at the London School of Economics’ Gender Institute, completing her PhD in 2005. Simpson then worked as a researcher in London and Edinburgh at the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR). In 2011 she returned to Glasgow as a lecturer in Sociology.

Simpson made important contributions to her field of study, with published works such as : 2008’s Contemporary Spinsterhood in Britain: Gender, Partnership Status and Social Change and 2013’s co-authored Living Alone: Globalization, Identity and Belonging, challenging widely held beliefs about single life.
