Mary Isabel 'Maisie' Bowman first matriculated at the University of Glasgow in 1934 to study for an Arts degree. She was the daughter of Archibald Allan Bowman, a philosophy professor at the University, and Mabel Stewart. Her siblings, Archibald and Alastair were also students here. She was born in Fife, but later lived in Glasgow and lists her home address as ‘4, The University, Glasgow’.

Mary took classes in Latin and English during her first year. Upon entering her second year, she also took classes in Mathematics, History and Logic. In her final year she studied French alongside English. Mary was awarded a prize in Logic during her time here. She graduated MA in 1937.

Correspondence between the Bowman children and their parents is held by the University of Glasgow Archives and Special Collections.
