Biography of Janet Todd

Janet Margaret Todd was the Francis Hutcheson Professor of English Literature at the University from 2000 to 2004.

Todd has taught in Africa, the USA and Puerto Rico. She was Fellow in English at Sidney Sussex College from 1983 to 1989, and was then Professor of English Literature at the University of East Anglia for ten years. Her research concerns literature and culture of the Restoration and eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries and she has published on women's writing, cultural history and the development of fiction.

In 2004, Todd left Glasgow in to take the Herbert J C Grierson Chair of English Literature at the University of Aberdeen. On 1 September 2008, she will become the seventh President of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge.
