William Adam
Biography of William Adam
William Adam, born 1689, was a very successful designer and entrepreneur during the eighteenth century. He was dubbed Scotland's 'universal architect' by John Clerk of Eldin and was invited, possibly at the suggestion of the University Chancellor, James Graham 1st the Duke of Montrose, to design the Old College Library. The designs were approved by the senate 9 May, 1732. William Adam died in 1748.
