Biography of Stewart Aitchison

Stewart Aitchison joined the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering in 1990. He was appointed to a personal professorship of Phototonics in 1999.

Aitchison obtained a BSc (first class honours) and PhD from the Physics Department, Heriot Watt University in 1984 and 1987 respectively. From 1988 to 1990 he was a Postdoctoral Member of Technical Staff at Bell Communications Research in New Jersey.

In 2001, Aitchison left the University to become the Nortel Institute Professor of Emerging Technology, in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. He was appointed Vice-Dean Research for the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at Toronto in 2007.
