David Newth

Biography of David Newth

David Richmond Newth (1921-1988) was Regius Professor of Zoology at the University from 1965 to 1981.

Newth graduated from University College, London in 1942 and served in India in the REME during the Second World War. He returned to UCL in 1947 as an assistant lecturer in Zoology and was appointed Lecturer in 1949. In 1960 he became Professor of Biology as Applied to Medicine at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School.

An international authority on experimental embryology, Newth was a founder member of the editorial board and editor (from 1960 to 1969) of the Journal of Embryology and Experimental Morphology.
