Biography of Frederick Stevens

Frederick Stevens studied at the University from 1906 to 1908. He was born in 1885 in New York City, son of a merchant named John, who died before his son left to attend the University.

Before coming to Glasgow, Stevens worked for the real estate firm of West and Wheeler in Seattle, Washington, which played a substantial role in the development of the city. He enrolled at the University at the age of 21 and attended such classes as Mathematics, Chemistry, Natural Philosophy, Natural Philosophy Lab, Naval Architecture (Junior and Senior), Practical Naval Architecture, Engineering III and IV, and Naval Drawing.

Stevens returned to Seattle to take part in the ongoing shipbuilding boom, which took place during the early 20th century and became a massive industry during the First World War.
