Biography of John Teacher

John Hammond Teacher (1869-1930) was St Mungo (Notman) Professor of Pathology from 1911 until his death in 1930.

Born in Old Kilpatrick, Teacher studied at the University and graduated MA (1888), MB CM (1893) and MD (1904, winning a Bellahouston Gold Medal for his thesis). He was Underkeeper of the Hunterian Museum from 1894 to 1899, when he became assistant to the Professor of Physiology. In 1903, he became an assistant to the Professor of Pathology and he was appointed a lecturer on Pathological Histology in 1908. He was appointed Pathologist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1909, two years before his appointment to the new St Mungo (Notman) Chair.
