David Hamblen

David Lawrence Hamblen was Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University from 1972 until 1999. He is now Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Hamblen graduated MB BS from the University of London in 1957. He was awarded a PhD by the University of Edinburgh in 1975. He was Lecturer in Orthopaedics at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, University of Oxford (1967-68) and Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Edinburgh (1968-72). He was Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to South East Regional Hospital Board Scotland (1968-72) and Honorary Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery to the Army in Scotland (1976-99).

Hamblen was Chairman of Greater Glasgow Health Board from 1997 to 2002. He has held a number of offices with the British Orthopaedic Association and has been a member of national scientific and advisory panels on health matters. He was awarded the CBE in 2001 for services to the NHS.
