Biography of Roland Barnes
Roland Barnes was the first Professor of Orthopaedics at the University, from 1959 to 1972.
A graduate of the University of Manchester, Barnes came to Glasgow in 1943 as Frederick Young Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery, with beds at Killearn Hospital and the Western Infirmary. He published papers on injuries of the spine, peripheral nerve injuries and tumours on bones and in 1954 was made Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery.
