Augustinus Edvard Johnson attended the University in 1892, aged 23, to study Naval Architecture for two years. He was born in Vinnerstad, Sweden, son of Johan Peter, a farmer, and later moved to a town called Horn, Västervik.

After his studies at the University, Edward worked as an engineer in St Petersburg and Astrakhan, Russia, from 1899 to 1918. He later returned to Sweden where he worked on various inventions, examples being an ‘Apparatus for Treating Grain’ and a ‘Straining Device for Vacuum Drying Apparatus’, which were considered revolutionary in the malting industry.
