Biography of Robert Mayne

Robert Mayne (d 1646) was the first Regius Professor of Practice of Medicine at the University from 1637 until his death in 1646.

Mayne was a regent at the University for two years before his appointment to the Chair. His duties were defined as "to teache ane publict lecture of medicine in the ... college once or twyse ewerie weik, except in the ordiner tyme of vacance" and his stipend was set at 400 merks. The Chair was allowed to lapse after his death and was not re-founded until 1712.
