Biography of Douglas Munn
Walter Douglas Munn is a graduate of the University who was Thomas Muir Professor of Mathematics from 1973 to 1996.
Munn graduated MA with honours in Mathematics and Natural Philosophy in 1951. He was awarded a PhD by the University of Cambridge in 1955 and, after a year with the Royal Navy Scientific Service, he returned to Glasgow as an assistant in the Department of Mathematics. He was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the University of Stirling in 1966.
Professor W. Douglas Munn died on the 26th October 2008, aged 79.

I was at school (Marr College, Troon) with Douglas (Duggie to his classmates). He was consistently top of the class. He was a tall, gangly youth, a bit reserved and not at all sporty. I became quite a close friend and found him always polite, warm and generous. I never saw him again after graduation, but I remember him with affection and was sorry to read about his death.
