Roberet Latta was Professor of Logic and Rhetoric from 1902 to 1925. He was awarded a LLD in 1926.

Born in Edinburgh, Latta graduated MA with first class honours (1886) and DPhil (1897) from that city's University. He was an Assistant and Lecturer in Logic and Metaphysics at the University of St Andrews, 1892 to 1898, and a lecturer in of Logic and Moral Philosophy at University College, Dundee until 1900. He came to Glasgow in 1902 after spending two years at the University of Aberdeen as Professor of Moral Philosophy.

An ardent Liberal, Latta was Chairman of the College Division Liberal Association in Glasgow. He married the daughter of Sir John Harvard Biles.
