Ronald Finch
Biography of Ronald Finch
Ronald George Finch (d 1991) was Professor of German Language and Literature at the University from 1974 to 1991.
Finch's studies at the University College of Wales were interrupted by his service as an interpreter during the Second World War, but he graduated with first class honours in German in 1948 and joined the UCW German Department. In 1954 he was appointed Lecturer in German at Queen's University, Belfast and he was subsequently appointed Professor. In Belfast and at Glasgow, he made his name for articles he contributed on medieval literature and particularly on Old Icelandic topics.
