Biography of David Sherratt

David John Sherratt (1945- ) was Professor of Genetics at the University from 1980 until 1993.

Sherratt graduated from the University of Manchester in 1966 with a BSc in Biochemistry (first class) and was awarded a PhD by the University of Edinburgh in 1969. He was a post-doctoral Fellow at the University of California for two years before his appointment as a lecturer in Microbial Genetics at the University of Sussex in 1971. He left Glasgow in 1993 to become Iveagh Professor of Microbiology at the University of Oxford and Fellow of Linacre College.
