Henry Reid
Biography of Henry Reid
Henry Martyn Beckwith Reid (1856-1927) was Professor of Divinity at the University from 1903 until 1927.
Born in Glasgow, the son of a prison chaplain, Reid was a graduate of the University of St Andrews. He was briefly an assistant to the Professor of Humanity there, before becoming an assistant minister at Anderston Parish and then at Glasgow Cathedral. In 1882 he was ordained Minister of Balmaghie, where he remained unti his appointment to the Chair at Glasgow.
Reid published a number of academic articles and books during his tenure of the Chair at Glasgow, as well as The Divinity Principals in the University of Glasgow (1917) and The Divinity Professors in the University of Glasgow (1923).
