Alexander Forrester
Biography of Alexander Forrester
Alexander Clarkson Forrester was a graduate of the University and the first Professor of Anaesthetics from 1967 to 1972.
Forrester studied Medicine at the University, graduating in 1931, and went into general practice in Glasgow. He was appointed visiting anaesthetist at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in 1936 and Senior Lecturer in Anaesthesia at the University in 1954 (promoted to Reader in 1960). In 1967, the University created the first Chair of Anaesthetics in Scotland, and appointed Forrester as Professor.
