Biography of Donald Hendrie

Donald Stewart Hendrie (1909-1965) was Principal of the West of Scotland Agricultural College and Professor of Agriculture at the University from 1954 to 1966.

Hendry was a graduate of the West of Scotland Agricultural College (BSc with first class honours, 1930) and continued his studies in Canada, London and Cambridge before returning to the College as an assistant in 1932. After working as a district lecturer at the University of Leeds (1936-1940) and County Agricultural Executive Officer in North Yorkshire (1940-1949), he was agricultural adviser to the British High Commissioner in New Zealand from 1949 to 1954.
