Biography of John Armour McKerrow
John Armour McKerrow was a graduate of the University of Glasgow, obtaining both an MA in 1907 and a BSc in 1911. He was born on October 28th, 1885 in Irvine, Ayrshire. His father was Hugh McKerrow, a goods superintendent.
McKerrow first enrolled at the University in 1904, aged 18, to study for his MA. He attended classes in Mathematics and Latin during his first year. His second year classes consisted of English, History and Logic. During the final year of his MA, McKerrow began to concentrate on the sciences, taking classes in Chemistry and Natural Philosophy. After completing his MA in November 1907, he then moved on to study for his BSc. McKerrow took classes in Naval Architecture in his first year, Geometry, Engineering and Drawing in his second year, and Applied Higher Mathematics in his final year. He graduated in November 1911. During his time at University, McKerrow was awarded a certificate of merit in Organic Chemistry by lecturer Thomas S. Patterson.
After graduating University, McKerrow became a teacher. He resided at 16 Kay Park Terrace, Kilmarnock. He died on November 13th, 1949.
