William Erskine

Biography of William Erskine

William Erskine (fl 1585-1587) was Archbishop of Glasgow and Chancellor of the University from 1585 to 1587.

Erskine was parson of Campsie and had been Commendator of Paisley before his translation to the Glasgow See in 1585. In 1587 he was deprived of the archbishopric by King James VI, who gave it instead to Walter Stewart.
