Biography of John Waddel
John Waddel (or Waddell) graduated MA from the University in 1793. He first matriculated at the University in 1788 when he registered for the Latin class taught by Professor William Richardson . In the session 1790/91, he won a prize for ‘Eminence and Exemplary Conduct during the Session’ in Greek class.
John Waddel was born 10th April 1771 in Lanarkshire and his father was James, a craftsman in the parish of Shotts, Lanark. John was ordained in May 1797 and emigrated to Nova Scotia on 12th August 1797 where he became the session minister at Truro, from 1798. He married Nancy Ann Blanchard in 2nd September 1802.
Reverend John Waddel died on 13th November 1842, aged 72.
