Biography of Lockhart Muirhead
Lockhart Muirhead was the first Reguis Professor of Natural History at the University of Glasgow from 1808- 1829. He was born in 1765, son of Patrick and Elizabeth Muirhead.
Muirhead also served as principle librarian of university library from 1807-1829. Before his appointment as professor, he was a lecturer in Natural History. In 1807 he travelled to London to superintend the packing and dispatch of Hunter’s museum to the university. He was later appointed keeper of the Hunterian Museum, alongside his professorship.
