Biography of James Hay 15 Earl of Errol

James Hay, 15th Earl of Errol, was Rector of the University from 1761 to 1763.

James was the son of William Boyd, 4th Earl of Kilmarnock, who was beheaded in the Tower of London in 1746 for his role in the Jacobite rising. James, who had fought with the government forces, changed his surname to Hay in 1758 on succeeding to the earldom.
