Biography of John Maxwell

John Maxwell, 7th of Auldhouse (c 1589-1666) was an alumnus of the University who was elected Dean of the Faculty of Arts in 1632 and was Rector of the University, 1636 to 1637.

Maxwell was laureated at the University in 1609. He was Minister of Eastwood from 1620 to 1628 and for Paisley from 1828 to 1829, before he was translated to the High Church of Glasgow. He went to Ireland in 1640 but returned to Eastwood as minister about 1643. His son Sir George Maxwell and his grandson Sir John also became Rectors of the University.
