Biography of Thomas Scott Shanks

Sub-Lieutenant Thomas Scott Shanks was born in Airdrie and studied in the Arts Faculty at the University from 1936 until 1940. He left to join the Royal Navy and served aboard the HM Submarine Simoom.

Shanks and the other forty-seven members of the submarine's crew died on 19 November 1943 when their ship either struck a mine or was sunk by a German U-Boat in the Aegean Sea.
