Biography of Robert Story
Robert Herbert Story (1835-1907) was Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University from 1886 to 1898 and Principal from 1898 until his death. A memorial window was installed in his honour in the Bute Hall.
Born in Rosneath, Story studied at the Universities of Edinburgh, St Andrews and Heidelberg and became a minister. He was a leading liberal in the Church of Scotland, was Chaplain-in-Ordinary to Queen Victoria from 1886 and was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1894.
