Burton Fund
Description
The TM and HG Burton Fund was founded by the bequest of Helen Burton (b c1900), nee Mitchell, the wife of a Glasgow graduate, Thomas Menzies Burton (c1893-1951). In 1987 the Burton Chair of Medicine was created money from the Fund.
The fund's trustees had expressed their desire that "the income should be used principally to establish a Burton Chair and a Burton Lectureship in perpetuity in those fields of medicine which, at the time when the posts fell vacant, were at the front of medical research...", and two appointments that year, to the chairs of Medical Genetics and Neurology, were made using money from the fund.
