Peter Thomas Garvie

Peter Thomas Garvie was born on the 13th September 1891 in ZyrardÃ³w, Mazowieckie, Poland. He was the son of Thomas Henry Garvie (1852-1918) and Elizabeth Garvie (nÃ©e Dickson) (1860-1956), and husband of Kathleen Garvie (nÃ©e Marriott) (1887-1970) of Cheadle, Cheshire. They had married on the 2nd December 1916 in Stockport, Cheshire, England. Peter was educated at Rontalers in Warsaw, then Mill Hill School in London, before becoming a student of the Royal Technical College and served as an University of Glasgow Officers' Training Corps cadet from 1912 to 1914.

Peter obtained a commission to serve with the Royal Garrison Artillery in October 1914. The following year he served at Gallipoli from April to June, and was wounded during landing. In June 1915 he was sent to Cairo in Egypt suffering from typhoid fever. He was on sick leave in England until January 1916. Peter then served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders in February 1916. Captain Peter Thomas Garvie was killed in action at Flanders on the 25th June 1917, aged 25. He was laid to rest at the Dickebusch New Military Cemetery, Dikkebus, near Ieper, Belgium.
