Robert Milne Lees

Student

Robert Milne Lees was born in Stewarton, Ayrshire, and was the youngest son of John Albert and Elizabeth Lees. His parents were married on the 26th of June 1895, and Robert had two sisters and an elder brother. From 1906 the family lived at St James' Manse, Hamilton where Robert's father was a Minister of Religion.

Having completed his secondary school education at Hamilton Academy, Robert enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1916 at the age of 17. In his first year of studies he took classes in Latin and Greek. He joined the Royal Flying Corps while a student at Glasgow,

and was commissioned in 1917.

Robert was made a 2nd Lieutenant and continued to serve in the Flying Corps. Robert Milne Lees was killed in a flying accident on the 21st of March 1918. He is remembered on the University of Glasgow Roll of Honour.
