Joseph Wilson was on 9th May 1887 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. His mother and father were Mr. and Mrs Joseph Wilson, residing at Howard Street, Kilmarnock.
Wilson first matriculated into Glasgow University in the 1906 to 1907 session. He studied Science and was taking classes in Mathematics, Natural Philosophy, Chemistry, and Physics Lab. within his first year. Wilson was listed as living at 16 Stephen Drive, South Govan during his student years. He gained a prize in Engineering Drawing and Design (Junior Class). Wilson gained a BSc with distinction in 1909.
Prior to the outbreak of War, Wilson held a position with an electrical engineering firm in Luton. He was married in June 1915 to Miss Catherine R. Bridges, 17 High Street, Lanark.
Wilson was Captain of the 6th Battalion Cameron Highlanders. He enlisted shortly after the outbreak of War in 1914. Wilson was gazetted Lieutenant in April 1915. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallant conduct at the battle of Loos. Shortly after this, he was promoted Captain.
Wilson was killed in action on 30th November 1917, age 30. He is remembered with Honour at Faubourf D’amiens Cemetery, Arras.
