Alexander MacDonald Nevin

Alexander MacDonald Nevin was born on the 25th July 1872 in Londonderry, County Londonderry, then in Ireland. His father, Robert Nevin (1817-1893), was a Clergyman, and his mother, Catherine Nevin (née Manson) (1843-1903). He first matriculated at the University of Glasgow, aged 22, to study Medicine. He graduated MB CM in 1900, and went on to qualify as a Doctor of Public Health at Birmingham University.
Alexander married Mary Chancellor (1867-1957) on the 27th August 1902 in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland. They had two daughters, Mary Chancellor Nevin and Catherine Dorothea Nevin.
Before the war Alexander, a Physician and Surgeon, was the Medical Officer of Health with the Yardley Rural District Council and the family lived at 674 Stratford Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England.
During the war Alexander served with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the 36th General Hospital Unit in Salonika, which later became attached to the Serbian Army from June 1916 to June 1917, and where he contracted cerebral malaria. Lieutenant Alexander MacDonald Nevin died in Newcastle, County Down, Ireland, on the 28th June 1917, aged 45. He is commemorated at Banbridge Town Cemetery, Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland.
