Captain John Ferguson was born on 10th April, 1882, in Alloa, Clackmanan. His father, John Ferguson, was a teacher. His mother and father lived at 18 Claremond, Alloa, Clackmananshire.
Ferguson studied Medicine at Glasgow University between 1904 and 1907. Ferguson was taking classes in the Practice of Medicine and Surgery within his first year. During his time of his first matriculation, Ferguson lived at 24 Havelock Street, Glasgow. During his matriculation for the 1905-1906 session, Ferguson resided at 9 University Avenue, Glasgow. Ferguson graduated with an M.B. ChB. in 1907.
Ferguson was a part of the Royal Army Medical Corps. At the time of his death, Ferguson was acting as a medical officer in the Liverpool Regiment. He was awarded the military cross.
In a press clipping dating to 3/3/17, it states that, “Temp. Capt. John Ferguson, M.B., R.A.M.C. – He displayed great courage and determination in tending the wounded under the most intense hostile fire. Later, although himself wounded, he remained at his post until all the wounded men had been dressed."
John Ferguson was killed in action on 30th November 1917 in France while attending the wounded. He is remembered with honour at Cambrai Memorial, Louverval.
